Maria Moore for Supervisor
Revitalizing Westhampton Beach Goes Beyond Main Street.
Westhampton Beach Renaissance
In July of 2016 Mayor Moore worked with local landscape architects to transform a vacant lot into the Glover’s Lane Park, complete with lush trees, benches, a fountain, a bocce court, and a little free library courtesy of the Westhampton Free Library. Where before there was an empty dirt lot, now there is a serene pocket park and book nook only steps from Main Street.
Moore’s next project was to design and install a military appreciation park at the village marina in time for a Memorial Day 2019 dedication. Visitors can take time to remember the incalculable service of others to our country, and to consider what we can each do to contribute to our community.
Next in the works is the installation of solar panel arrays on thirteen acres of property owned by the village to be leased to an operator. The photovoltaic cells in these arrays will convert sunlight to electricity that will help meet the demand for clean energy.
The village has undertaken the preservation and restoration of the Governor John Dix (1798-1879) windmill. This is being accomplished through an intermunicipal agreement between the village and Town of Southampton. Maria has shepherded this project through the Town Landmark and Historic Districts Board to secure grant funding.
It is expected to be restored to a fully functioning windmill that pumps water. A great reminder of where we have been as we look to where we are going. You can find the project description and interesting history here.
Maria shares full credit with the Trustees for the Village’s successes along with Town, County and State leaders who have come together to demonstrate just how much can be accomplished when elected officials work together to achieve a common goal. All agree, Maria’s leadership has been indispensable to the Renaissance of Westhampton Beach. One resident said Maria has “made Westhampton Beach a work of art, she needs a bigger canvas.”
In February, Maria was nominated for election to the office of Southampton Town Supervisor.
